I used half dark and half light cocoa, and 1/2 c sucanat for 1/2 c of the sugar. Pretty good, but not quite what I was expecting. A better and cheaper alternative than the store stuff, to be sure!
Really good syrup, not to sweet. It's more like a dark chocolate syrup. I'll cook it a little longer next time so it gets a little thicker. Over all, very yummy.
Turned out too sweet for the deep dark chocolate lover in me. I made a second batch, using 1 cup of real maple syrup instead of 1-1/2 cup of sugar. Exquisite! I brought it to a full rolling boil, whisking constantly and cooked for 5 minutes. When it cooled, I had a rich velvety sauce. It was soo good that I grabbed some strawberries and cleaned the pan with them!
Great! Great! Great!! Thank you for such an awesome recipe! It is wonderful that I am able to control what goes into the mouths of my family! I added the vanilla after removing the pan from the stove, as well as 1 tsp of organic unsulphered molasses for a little added nutrition! Thank you-Thank you!!!
This is AWESOME!!! I ended up using brown sugar because I was out of regular sugar, but it was still great! We are getting away from high fructose corn syrup, which is in most of the pre-made chocolate syrups! Thank you SO much!!!
This was a hit! Made it to go on banana splits and everyone raved. Better than store bought. Thanks wildheart.
Super easy, delicious, and everyone is right, far better than store-bought.
Followed this recipe exactly and I must say that this is way better than the stuff you buy at the store. That's probably because these days most store bought chocolate syrups are made from high fructose corn syrup and all sorts of other artificial ingredients. I make this to mix in with my son's nutritional breakfast shakes. He loves this syrup as much as I do. :)
I've made this alot. Does not work well with Splenda though. It was just gross. Stick to the sugar.
the kids loved it, I just refilled the squeezable chocolate syrup container we had and made this recipe with hershey's cocoa powder they were none the wiser. Thanks for a great recipe.
