    Boyz 5's Note:

YAY!!! I love Puffed Wheat Squares. This is a recipe that I came up with that absolutely works for me. I hope you love it too! Hint: Be careful to not let mixture boil longer than 5 minutes to ensure a chewy square.

This is similar to a recipe my mother-in-law has been making for her family for many years, but she uses slightly different proportions that may help avoid the hard consistency mentioned by some of the other reviewers. She uses: 1/2 c butter,
      1/2 cup corn syrup,
      1 c. brown sugar,
      3 TBS cocoa,
      2 tsp vanilla,
      9 c. puffed wheat.

I really enjoyed the flavour of this recipe, but mine turned out rock solid! As it cooled it turned into a hard sugar candy. I only boiled the sugar mix for 5 minutes, but I'm wondering if maybe even that was too much. Next time I think I'll try just 4!

This was very good when warm but sets up quite hard when cold! I'd suggest cutting it while still warm. The only thing I did different was to add 1 teaspoon of vanilla to the mixture before adding the puffed wheat. I'd make it again but I'm still in search of a puffed wheat square that is more chewy when cold.
