I haven't made this myself, but my mom used to make this in both chocolate and lemon versions when I was a kid. As it bakes, a crust forms on top, and the bottom becomes pudding.

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 325 degrees.
  2. Beat together butter, sugar, vanilla, and cocoa. Beat in eggs, then sugar, then sifted flour.
  3. Pour into ungreased 8x8-inch baking pan. Place pan inside a larger pan of water.
  4. Bake at 325 degrees for 45 minutes. Serve with whipped cream or ice cream, if desired.
