Not quite what I expected in the texture & weight of the cake, but that's NOT a minus, & the cake was definitely delicious! Of course, I'm a chocoholic, so . . . . Served the first room temperature slices with a bit of frozen vanilla yogurt & some homemade chocolate sauce that I have just sittin' around! Very satisfying! Thanks for sharing it! [Made & reviewed for one of my adoptees in this fall's round of Pick A Chef]

  1. Cream shortening and butter.
  2. Add sugar a little at a time.
  3. Add beaten eggs then vanilla.
  4. Sift flour twice
  5. Measure and add cocoa and sift again.
  6. Add flour alternatively with the milk to first mixture starting with flour and ending with flour.
  7. Pour into greased and floured tube cake pan.
  8. Cook for 1 hour and 20 minutes at 300º starting with a cold oven.
