this cake left me in amazement. and i can say the same about everyone else who tried it. it came out so good, you couldn't tell it was home-made. it's very moist, very soft and has got this tender chocolate taste with a hint of coffee. i substituted honey for syrup in the glaze and it still came out great, spread very evenly and stayed pretty:) also, i didn't have buttermilk so i used the Substitute for Buttermilk Substitute for Buttermilk. oh, and the baking time was a bit longer for me, maybe about 25 or 30 minutes. and that's about it. this cake rocks.
I don't know what I did wrong, but it turned out pretty bad. The cake came out not moist at all.
The cake is great! Exactly what you want from a moist chocolate cake. I halved the recipe and baked in a 7" cake pan and it still worked well. Next time will time making layers. Thanks!
This is just awesome! I have made this three times now and have learnt not to overcook this cake. It so, so wonderful when it is JUST cooked. I overcooked it once and while it was still great I now take great care to take it out as soon as it is done. Thanks for this great recipe!

(I'm only the rating the cake part) The cake is so moist and chocolatey!! I made the cake to go with my chocolate mousse recipe (by Alice Medrich). I sandwiched the mousse in between the cake that I cut out using a heart-shaped cake ring. I halved the recipe, and it's more than enough to make the 2 cake layers. It's so yummy, and best of all, so easy! Thanks for posting this wonderful recipe.
