When my Mom says she's making chocolate cake, she is making a yellow cake with this icing. It is exactly like her Sweet Milk and Sugar Icing (Frosting) but with cocoa added. Just like with that recipe, do NOT try to make this frosting if it is raining, it will NEVER get hard. I also love this spread between 2 teacakes (Anne's Teacakes (Tea Cakes)) to make a sandwich cookie.
- Mix sugar, cocoa and milk and butter in a large saucepan.
- Bring to a full rolling boil. Boil for 1 minute.
- Remove from heat and stir in vanilla.
- Place saucepan in a pan of cold water and beat with an electric mixer until a thick spreading consistency.
This is absolutely wonderful. My frosting turned out nice and creamy and was perfect of my brownies. Thank you for sharing
This frosting is really good! At least, the ingredients I used following your directions made an awesome frosting. We do not like super sweet frosting, and we do like dark chocolate, so I halved the sugar to a cup and I doubled the cocoa to 1/2 cup. I also used fat free evaporated milk. The frosting came out perfect. Not too sweet, very dark, and just the right spreading consistency. Thanks, ColCadsMom. =)
