This recipe came from my dad's grandmother who was from Arkansas. We put the chocolate gravy over southern buttermilk biscuits and we loved this as a Saturday morning breakfast!

    Units: US | Metric

    Directions:

    1. 1
Combine the sugar and cocoa in a separate bowl with a whisk or fork and set aside.
    2. 2
In a medium sized frying pan melt the butter over medium heat. When the butter is melted and hot add the flour and let the flour and butter cook for 1-2 minutes but do not burn the butter.
    3. 3
Add milk and make a white sauce stirring constantly until it begins to thicken. Add the cocoa and sugar mixture and, as the sauce thickens, add the vanilla. The gravy will continue to thicken as it cooks so you may need to add more milk occasionally.
    4. 4
Put gravy over hot biscuits and enjoy with a tall glass of cold milk!

I was intrigued with the title of this recipe, & when I made it, I cut it in half for the 2 of us &, as suggested, had it over some buttermilk biscuits!! Definitely an interesting & enjoyable combo for breakfast, though we had it with a tall glass of fruit smoothie! [Made & reviewed for one of my adoptees in this fall's round of Pick A Chef]
