Recipe by Jeri Roth Lande

The addition of chocolate to a fruit crumble really elevates this dish above the ordinary. The recipe is very forgiving - I'm sure you could use many types of fruit. This is a very loose rendition of Smitten Kitchen's Chocolate Oat Crumble - as in, I think I changed every ingredient but the oats.

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350.
  2. Mix chocolate chips, oats and honey in a small bowl for the topping.
  3. Melt coconut oil over medium heat in a large skillet. Add sugar and cook together, stirring, until it becomes golden at the edges.

  5. Mix in dates and nutmeg.
  6. Remove from heat and stir in the cornstarch.
  7. Pour the fruit mixture into a greased 9 inch square pan.
  8. Spread the topping over the top of the fruit.
  9. Bake at 350 for 25 minutes or until the apples are soft and the topping is crispy.
