I can't eat chocolate (migraines), but boy, are there chocolate lovers in this family! My partner, Harry, and his three boys (teenagers, all of them), are fluent in chocolate... as is his entire family! So, I made this recipe with just a minor change - I doubled the chocolate. Yes, that means doubled the chopped chocolate (I didn't have bittersweet, I used semi-sweet), doubled the cocoa, and doubled the chocolate chunks (more semi-sweet chunks). The buttermilk was expired, so I used the old lemon juice in the bottom of the measuring cup, topped with milk trick, left it sit while I readied everything else, and perfect (icky) chunky buttermilk like milk came out. These muffins were mixed with a light hand, just as Azparzych instructed, and perfect, it's-a-bird-it's-a-plane-no-it's-super-super-chocolate-chocolate-chunk-muffins flew out of the oven! Once cool, I used a stainless steel strainer and a spoon to push through fine icing sugar for a light contrast. Sadly, that didn't last once the cover was placed on, so I made Amazingly Easy Chocolate Buttercream Frosting and placed a small hersheys kiss on top. DP is taking those pics, so crossing fingers you'll get to see them! Azparzych, thanks for the awesome recipe - any recipe that inspires like this one deserves a special place in my recipe book!

I'm not a very good baker so I was careful to follow the directions exactly and these turned out perfectly!!!! Moist, wonderful texture, smelled fantastic and tasted even better!! I omitted the sprinkled sugar since my husband doesnt have a HUGE sweet tooth. I made these in cupcake trays and got 20 nice sized cupcake muffins. I gave several to my daughters boyfriend who gave them a huge thumbs up, and since my daughter is an excellent baker, I felt that was good praise :)

Although I pretty much followed your recipe, I AM a chocoholic, so naturally added a small handful of additional semi-sweet chocolate chips during the final mixing! Loved the addition of the sugar on top, & will be making this great keeper of a recipe again! Might even share some the next time around, but this first batch was just for the 2 of us! Fabulous, lightly sweet, chocolate muffin. I followed the recipe exactly and these were good to snack on all times of the day! They had a nice muffin texture but were a bit crumbly. I really liked the crunch of the coarse sugar on top. Next time I would add more chocolate chunks or chips. Freddy Cat says hi! Made for 1-2-3 hit wonders.

Fabulous!! My kids said they are the best I have tried from different recipes here. I actually tripled the recipe as I was using them to send in with DD for her HS Art Class breakfast and she came back with not one left!! Good thing I kept 6 here or there would have been some issues. I did goof and melted all the chopped chocolate with the butter (I really should read better!) and then added some semi-sweet chocolate chunks to the batter at the end. They were really full of chocolate flavor because of my goof but it did not affect the texture at all. I'll be making these often - the kids would have an uprise if I did not promise this! Truly a terrific find in 123 Hits tag game.

I really enjoyed these, but my kids LOVED them! My DD wanted to rate it 100! LOL! I changed it slightly. I didn't have the bittersweet chocolate, actually all I had was a few chocolates and some white chocolate so that is what I used. It turned out great! I made this for photo tag.
