  • Cut 12 cherries in half, and set aside. Chop the remaining cherries, and set aside.
  • Combine butter and 1/2 cup chocolate morsels in top of a double boiler; bring water to a boil. Reduce heat to low; cook until the butter and chocolate melt, stirring occasionally. Remove from heat, and let cool slightly.
  • Combine the flour and next 3 ingredients in a large mixing bowl; stir well and set aside.
  • Add sugar, eggs, and vanilla to reserved chocolate mixture, stirring with a wire whisk until blended. Add to the reserved flour mixture, beating at low speed of an electric mixer until blended. Stir in reserved chopped cherries and pecans (pecans are optional).
  • Spread mixture in a greased 13x9x2 inch pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 25 to 28 minutes, or until a wooden toothpick inserted in the middle comes out clean. Cool in the pan on a wire rack. Cut into squares, and top each square with a reserved cherry half.
  • Combine 1/2 cup chocolate morsels and shortening in the top of a double boiler; bring water to a boiil. Reduce heat to low; cook until chocolate and shortening melt, stirring occasionally. Drizzle over the brownies.

  1. Very good briwnies...the only thing I changed was I doubled it and made them on a sheet pan for a party. Turned out great! Made for PAC spring 2012

  2. Made these several days ago & totally forgot about reviewing them. Here I am now, though, to let you know that these brownies are OUTSTANDING, REALLY GREAT! We thoroughly enjoyed the combo of chocolate & cherries, & the chocolate drizzled over the top made them very special.! Definitely a nice change from the ones I usually make! Thanks so much for sharing the recipe! [Tagged & made in Please Review My Recipe]

  3. Oh boy oh boy have we a winner here! The blend of cherries with the light chocolate flavor of the brownie - oh me oh my it is fabulous!! They are such a light and moist brownie. I made them extra special with the cherries on top and the drizzle of chocolate. My family is raving about them and if I don't make them again they'll go raving mad!! Thanks for a keeper for sure!! Made during the ZWT6 tour.

  4. These were so tasty and everyone loved them! I also didn't do the choc drizzle, just because I was in a rush and I didn't have pecans so omitted them too. A great recipe thank you for sharing, made for ZWT6.

  5. Breezer - sorry but I had to use apricots - got to the store and not a cherry in sight !! So I snipped dried apricots through the batter and they went fabulously with the oats - this is a great slice, does not last long though, no one can keep away !! I did not do the choc drizzle. Made for Everyday is a Holiday .
