This dessert bakes into two layers, one like a cake, and one like a pudding. You can serve this hot or cold, both ways are good.

Ingredients Nutrition

  1. Combine flour, baking powder, salt, sugar, and cocoa in a greased 9 inch square pan, stirring well. Stir in milk, butter, and vanilla, spreading mixture evenly in pan.

I would say this recipe was ok. I had made something like this years ago, and could not find my recipe. This recipe seemed the same, but the pudding layer on the bottom tasted a bit watery to me. I think the previous reviewers suggestion of doing coffee instead of water is good. I would try this again with that change. Hubby and I did enjoy it, and thank you for posting it.

This is very like the recipe I got from my old Fannie Farmer cookbook. I prefer it made with cold coffee. I just made it last night using chocolate-raspberry flavour coffee. Took it to work with me and my co-worker asked for the recipe. In Fannie Farmer, it's called Denver Chocolate Pudding and the cookbook says it's also known as Fudge Pudding.
