I made this cake to take to work and it was easy. I was a little leery of putting the cream filling on the top of the cake, so I opted for a chocolate ganache instead. I will also sweeten the filling a little more the next time I make it. It was a hit with my co-workers. Thanks Sheryll

#2 son, age 12, had to bring a German recipe to a class party. This recipe was easy enough that he could do most of the work himself. The filling tastes a lot like apple dip, and the kids like it. The one suggestion I'd make, for people more kitchen savvy than my son, would be to use a heavier torte batter, rather than box mix. Trying to slice layers on a box mix cake is a challenge. Our layers came out a bit lopsided. I've made torten before, and my regular recipe is easier to slice neatly. We compensated for some sloping layers by piling the filling on extra thick.
