This cake was very good, but too dense. I don't know if I did something wrong, but it hardly rose, so it didn't have the light, fluffiness that I was looking for. Or maybe that is just a result of baking with applesauce, I don't know. It worked better cut up into brownies. Either way, it has a good flavor. (By the way, I froze some if it and it froze well)
this was a moist chocolate cake and the topping just enhances the flavor. i loved the easy prep
Unfortunately, I can't rate this because not only I did not have any shortening and had to use butter (nor any nuts, so I had to do without), but because after I had already creamed the butter and sugar I realised that all I had was a bit over 1 cup flour and a bit over 1.5 cups applesauce. I made it anyway and let it cool in the oven overnight, because it seemed that it did not set. This ended up being a really moist, smooth, chocolaty and cinnamony cake with a bit of apple taste. I wouldn't say it was the most impressive cake I ever made, but it was good and very easy (got to love just one dirty bowl), and I'll probably be making it again.
