haven't tried it but it sounds interesting. I'm very much into herbs and cooking etc. with them and noticed a lot of those types of recipes in 'zaar, so thought i'd post some.
- Add flowers to oil in a jar with tight fitting lid, let sit for a week.
- After a week, oil will turn lilac and take on fragrance of chive flowers.
- Use the oil on salads or in cooking- refrigerate when not in use.
- The flowers have a milder taste than the leaves and add a decorative touch to salads, oils and other side dishes.
This sounds such a lovely idea that I'd love to give it a high rating. Unfortunately the recipe didn't work for me at all. The flowers lost their colour, but they didn't turn the oil lilac; neither did the oil take on the fragrance of the flowers, it just tasted unpleasant. The oil didn't go cloudy or anything and I don't know what went wrong (I used a sterilised jar and opened a fresh bottle of oil) so if anyone can tell me, I'd be interested to know. Next year, however, I'll leave the chive flowers for the bees.
