My mother made chili dogs once a week while I was growing up as it was an inexpensive and easy meal to feed a family of eight. This is total comfort food for me. I toasted the bun and used red onion and, of course, served with Fritos. Made for Pammy's cookathon.
- 1 (25 ounce) can chili (I use Hormel, with beans, but you can use whatever you like )
- 6 hot dogs
- 6 hot dog buns
- 8 ounces cheddar cheese
- 1⁄2 cup onion, diced (optional)
