I actually did a half and half...I used left over grilled out dogs and hambugers...I didn't mix them because I wasn't sure if my five year old would eat it! I left out the onion and mustard, but they can top it with that if they want and colslaw too! yummy! I've also made it just as a chili cheese burger casserole with leftover burgers and leftover french bread!

Very good! I followed recipe as listed except I mixed the chili, onion, & about 1 cup of cheese together before spreading over buns. Then I baked it & sprinkled with about 2 more cups of cheese during the last 5 mins. After baking, I topped with ranch dressing & chopped green onions. Tasted great with french fries & onion rings. My family gobbled it up! Thanks for the quick, easy, tasty recipe Momma Loon!

I made this one night when I was looking to make something. My husband went nuts and I never really got to have any leftovers cause he ate it all up. I had used some Cheddarwursts that I had and that was really good. Took the other suggestion of using some bread I had as I did not have any buns, and they were right, no one knew the difference. Thanks for the great Idea

This was really good except for a tad salty. My kids loved it and I will definitely be making it again. I didn't have a full package of hot dog buns so I just used what I had, when I make it next I will be sure to use the full package, I think that will help with the saltiness. Thank you for posting a good one!

I've been making this for quite a few years now and my family loves it. It's great to use up leftover homemade chili. When making with canned chili I usually add some chopped onions - YUM. If I don't have buns, I just chunk up some bread - no one knows the difference.

This was good but I did make some changes. I didn't have any hot dog rolls so I used hamburger rolls. I didn't think that 1 can of chili looked like enough. I wanted my hot dogs and rolls covered and it took three cans to do that. I didn't add the onions or mustard as we don't like it. It had a good taste without all the mess of chili dogs.

I made this for PAC Spring 2007. I loved that this was so simple to throw together, cheap to make, and that it's much less messy to deal with than real chili dogs. I actually preferred it as reheated leftovers, because I think the flavors had a better chance to meld after chilling overnight (not that it wasn't good hot right out of the pan, just better once "aged"). I served this with some ketchup on top (must have ketchup with hot dogs) and dill pickles and potato chips on the side. This would be really over the top with a batch of homemade chili instead of the canned variety, but that will be a future weekend project. Good stuff, thanks for posting!

Mmmmm...this was quite tasty! My kids thought it was only "okay", but dh and I thought it was fab. I used wheat buns, low-fat hot dogs, lowfat chili, and lowfat cheese. Delish and easy!

This was an excellent lunch. I have made it twice once with the buns and once without (at the DH suggestion). We like it better with the buns included. Thanks for the recipe.

I made this for dinner last week. It was AWESOME! DH was skeptical about the buns, thinking it would be soggy. But it wasn't, it was perfect!! I did add another can of chili and extra onions. What a fun dish to make for a change! Thanks Momma Loon!

My Jr Hi grandson is on a football team and since his Mom and his best friend's Mom really can't affored the concession stand prices for game-time treats for themselves and their kids I make food for mini-tailgate parties for them at each game. I made this delicious and easy casserole this past weekend. EVERYONE was crazy over it! Many had 2 helpings and want me to bring it again. To go with it I made Lemonade Cupcakes (#95878) and the combination of the two was outstanding. This chili dog recipe was very easy to make; not expensive and delicious. What more can you ask for??? Thanks for sharing this recipe I will make over and over again!!

Just like eating a chili-cheese dog.....but with a fork and without the mess! I agree, this is great for kids, but adults, too! This would be a great thing to make for a picnic or the guys' superbowl party. Thanx for sharing. I'll be making this again!

Absolutely excellent!! I was gonna say really kid-friendly, but I have to admit that I loved this one too! I used Skyline chili (which is comparable to Gold Star chili), which is sort of sweet, with a hint of cinnamon and nutmeg...The only kind my kids will eat! Thank you so much! DELISH! A new staple in our household! No leftovers!!! :)
