One-Pot Chili Con Carne

ingredients
- 907.18 g lean ground beef
- 354.88 ml onions, diced
- 118.29 ml celery, diced
- 59.14 ml green bell pepper, diced
- 2 (822.13 g) can diced tomatoes with green chilies
- 822.13 g can tomato sauce
- 59.14 ml chili powder
- 9.85 ml ground cumin
- 7.39 ml garlic powder
- 2.46 ml salt (optional)
- 2.46 ml fresh ground black pepper
- 2.46 ml dried oregano
- 2.46 ml red pepper flakes
- 2.46 ml dried basil
- 2.46-4.92 ml ground cayenne pepper
- 425.24 g can red kidney beans
- 425.24 g can chili (or pinto beans)
directions
- Place ground beef in a large skillet and cook over medium-high heat until brown. Drain and set aside.
- Saute the onions, celery and bell pepper until onions are soft and translucent.
- Add the ground beef, onions, celery and bell pepper with the remaining ingredients to a large pot.
- Bring to a boil, reduce heat and simmer for 1 1/2-2 hours, stirring occasionally.
- Serve with a dollop of sour cream and grated cheddar cheese on top.

I love chili and have tried many many recipes. This is a true keeper! I've never added celery or bell pepper to mine before, but they really added alot to the whole taste. Because it's towards the end of the tour - I did garnish with jalapeno, a 4-cheese Mexican blend (monterey jack, cheddar, asadero, and queso quesadilla), and a little cilantro. LOL. Thanks SueVM for a really nice treat. I halved the recipe, had a bowl and have frozen the rest to have later. Made for ZWT5 2009 Family Picks.

My two boys are Dennis and Alan both are living in London, UK and both are married.

They are now 5yrs and 4yrs old respectively as of November 2009.
I only work part time these days due to arthritus in my hands.
I love to cook and try new foods.
I like Middle Eastern cooking as I travelled to Turkey and Cyprus and got hooked on the foods there.
I collect cookbooks and probably have over 100 in my library so far, British, Greek, Turkish, Italian, Indian, Spanish, French, German, Jewish and Asian.
