I will be a little more explainatory about things than simply saying "this is not Gumbo" which I found to sound extremely RUDE! I, too, am from Southeast Louisiana and to tell you the truth, you have the ingredients right (well maybe not the tomatoes but that is personal preference) the only thing you lack is the TRUE indgredient that makes Gumbo, well, Gumbo. This ingredient is Roux. In case you are not familiar with this term, Roux is equal parts of fat and flour that has been browned to a deep dark rich chocolate color then added to the chicken, veggies and stock. Without Roux, you do not have gumbo, you have little more than a really flavorful chicken soup. I hope this helped to explain a little more than that rudeness that Tamzzy tried to pass off as a review.

I've lived in Louisiana most of my life, and I say it is gumbo. Roux is made out of oil and flour. It's not an ingredient in this gumbo because this is a lower calorie version. The nutrition information does not accurately reflect the calories because the chicken is meat only, the sausage is low fat. The only oil is the 1-2 tbs you use for the sausage and vegetables.

This was great, and healthier than the alternative. Definitely a keeper in this household, the flavors were wonderful! Thank you for sharing!

This was very easy to make in a crock pot, and was quite good. The only thing I did differently was to use Healthy Choice low-fat sausage, and to add a tbls. of file about twenty minutes before it was done. While not the same stuff you'd find on Canal Street, it is far healthier for you.
