At 90 seconds cooking time (1000 Watts)this was just getting hot, nowhere near cooking. I put it back in the microwave and cooked another minute or so. It was a big thick mass of sticky dry goo. I gave it two stars since It wasn't so bad that I needed to throw it out. But it was far from delicious. I tried adding a dash of salt, a bit of butter, another splash of milk. They all made it a bit better, but not yummy. The vanilla didn't seem to add any flavor either. I love dried cherries in my oatmeal - thought this would be a quicker version.... but I'll stick with my stove top. Sorry.

I mixed everything together except for the sweetener and since I like my oats creamy, added a 1/2 cup of water in addition to the milk. I nuked it on high for 90 seconds only to find it was not cooked at all so I put it back for 6 more minutes (I normally do microwave oatmeal for 8 minutes.) After that it was nice and creamy, just how I like it. I topped it with a sprinkle of demerara sugar and added more milk. 90 seconds is definitely not enough cooking time, even in the microwave. I will definitely make this again as I love the taste of cherries and vanilla; it just needs more time to cook.

A friend of mine sends a box of food treats every Christmas and the last one included a bag of dried cherries that I couldn't decide how to use. This was pretty yummy. I used a generous shake of splenda for the sweetner because I really like it sweet and put a dollop of fat free coolwhip on top for the "decadent" factor. (It makes me feel like I'm eating something sinful like a donut. Well, not really, but it feels closer then without!) For my taste it was too dry so I think next time I'll use more milk, like 3/4 of a cup. From my calculations, as written, this is 4 WW points. Also, I added the vanilla in with everything when cooking it as directed and I couldn't taste the vanilla at all. Next time I'll add it after it is cooked. Yummy oatmeal base though. Thanks!

You are the Queen of Oatmeal! Hail to the Queen! This was so creamy and delicious! I did make a few minor changes though. I only use quick oats in baking, for this recipe I used old fashioned oats. I placed about 1 cup milk (old fashioned oats require more liquid), the oats, tart cherries in a pan and brought to an almost boil. Then I reduced the heat and simmered, partially covered until thick, about 6-8 minutes. Just before serving, stirred in the vanilla extract and sweetened with about 1 tablespoon of cane sugar. Yum! Thanks for sharing. cg ;)

I believe that life is a collection of lessons that we must do our best to learn. One that I'm working on now is not judging those who judge others. I've come across this quote and thought I'd put it here: "The world is long on judgment and short on understanding. Judging is easy and self-satisfying. Understanding requires perspective, experience, and empathy."-Unknown
