You can make this in your crock pot to keep it warm for guests. The color is very pretty with the maraschino cherry juice. From the Cherry Marketing Institute.

Ingredients Nutrition

  1. Put apple cider, orange juice, maraschino cherry juice, cinnamon sticks, orange peel, cloves and allspice in a large saucepan; bring to a boil. Reduce heat; simmer 15 minutes. Strain out cinnamon sticks, orange peel. cloves and allspice. (Can be prepared in advance and reheated in crock pot).
  2. Place 2 maraschino cherries and 1 orange slice half in each of six mugs. Pour about 2/3 cup spiced cider over cherries. Serve warm.

I was gonna cut the recipe in half since there were just 2 of us, but then decided to go whole-hog & make it all, using some the next day, cold, as a base for smoothies (& those were very nice, too)! Will definitely keep this one in mind when the end-of-year holidays come around again, but even now it is a very comforting drink on a cold night! Thanks for sharing the recipe! This was so nice on a chilly morning! I halved the recipe and drank both cups. Thanks! Made for photo tag.

This is delicious! Oh we all just loved having this last night. It's been a cold and rainy couple of days, so this cider really knocked out the dreariness. The addition of cherries is such a great idea. It's a beautiful color too. This is nice and sweet with a bit of spice. I will be making this again for Christmas and more. Made and Reviewed for Spring PAC 2009. Thanks! :)
