  1. In a large saucepan or soup kettle, saute onion in butter.
  2. Add potatoes and water.
  3. Bring to a boil.
  4. Reduce heat; cover and simmer for 15 minutes or until potatoes are tender.
  5. Stir in the milk, soup, garlic salt and pepper; heat through.
  6. Add cheese; stir until cheese is melted.
