Cheesy Bread Round

"Another recipe from my friend Kim. It's fun to make and have everyone stand around it ripping off pieces! Great party snack. You can omit the green onion if desired, and you can add other seasonings to the butter... I've seen it with poppy seeds as well."

directions

  • Slice bread from the top lengthwise and crosswise, stopping about 1/2 inch from the bottom, so you end up with a checkered loaf (there will be~1/2- 1 inch square"towers" of bread).
  • Insert cheese slices in between bread sections- this is where you get creative-- cut the cheese slices to fit so there is a bit of cheese in every open section of bread.
  • Mix the onions, garlic powder, and butter together- brush over the top of the loaf, drizzling between the bread sections as well.
  • Wrap loaf in foil, and bake at 350 degrees for 20 minutes.
  • Remove from oven, and remove foil from the top of the loaf, but keep wrapped around the sides.
  • Return to the oven and bake uncovered for another 10-15 minutes, or until the cheese has melted.
  • To serve, place the whole loaf on a plate, and your guests can grab a fork and dive in!

  1. I make this all the time, although I add poppy seeds to the melted butter and use 1/2 monterey jack cheese and 1/2 cheddar. Also, the bread is easiest to cut if you put it in the freezer for 1/2 hr before cutting. I also find that an electric knife works well.

I live just outside of Madison, Wisconsin in the wonderful midwest. The seasons here are great, and the winter offers up some wonderful skiing opportunities. Also, I'm a Green Bay Packer fan, so getting together for tailgating parties are something I look forward to. I grew up right here, and am an only child. My mom was (is) a wonderful cook - except for meatloaf... I can't stand the stuff to this day!! She never seemed to work off of recipes, so I don't have much in writing that was passed down to me. I've become somewhat of a 'messy' cook - I throw in things without exact measuring, and I take up all available counter space when I make dinner - no matter how simple it is! My husband and I have no children, so I usually wind up with lots of leftovers... I haven't yet mastered the art of cooking for two. :)
