directions

  • Place ingredients in the machine according to your specific instructions.
  • I have a Breadman and I put the liquid into the machine first, then the remaining ingredients.
  • This makes 1 1/2 lb loaf at white bread setting.

Questions & Replies

  1. How much yeast is in a package?

  2. I don't have dry milk which seems to be needed in most recipes. Is there any way to substitute it?

  1. This was great! I added a little granulated garlic and dried basil with the dry ingredients. I set the machine for the dough cycle and then baked in the oven. Thanks for the wonderful recipe, I'll be making this often!

  2. Found a fix for people who discovered that this wonderful bread fell in the middle after rising. Use only 1 1/8 cups water! Checked the proportions of water to flour in my Zojirushi bread machine and found this recipe had about 1/8 cup more than was recommended for a white loaf this size. I know I'll be making this one on a regular basis!

  3. I had high hopes for this recipe. Followed directions to a "T". Everything looked hopeful until the dough started the baking process. The dough was rising so high, it lifted the top off my bread machine! Therefore, I couldn't bake it in the machine. I took the whole pan out of the machine and thought I would try to bake it in the oven, but when I did, the middle sank. I put it in the oven anyways and the bread pan fell over spilling dough into the oven. What a catastrophe. For a minute there, I thought I was on the I Love Lucy show with the huge bread monster coming out of the oven. I maybe will try making this again, but will bake in the regular oven instead of the bread machine. Too bad cause it smelled really good.

  4. I just made it today and it was super! I did take the advice of others to reduce the water 1/8 cup for fear of it collapsing. It didn't. The taste was better than I expected too. I used the dough setting and put it in a glass bread/loaf pan. I baked it with the advice given on the message boards and it was nicely browned on top and done on the inside too. My family didn't want to wait for it to cool because they were tempted with the toasty cheese smell. I haven't tried it as toast yet, but I will. This one is a keeper!<br/>Thanks for sharing it!

  5. this baked up just great in my breadman! sliced up easily, and we just served this with butter and cheese, with a hearty soup, in front of the fireplace, good deal!

Tweaks

  1. Reduced water, used white cheddar, and baked in oven.

  2. Overall I thought this bread tasted pretty good. The only thing I didn't like was the bread turned out orange instead of the cheese bits being visible which is what I was hoping would happen. A sharp white cheddar would be nice to avoid orange bread.

  3. Love it! Instead of using the full amount of white bread flour, I subbed one cup of whole wheat flour, then the other 2 cups of bread flour to add some "wholesomeness". :) Everyone here enjoyed each slice of this light, full loaf. Thanks Geema! **I used 2 teaspoons of jarred yeast which worked just fine.
