I have had this two ways, the way as stated and grilled. I prefer the grilled way. It is so much better. You grill the chicken with the bbq sauce and then add extra when you put in the oven to melt the cheese. We cooked the bacon in the skillet to get it nice a crunchy and didn't top it until the chicken came out of the oven. Super YUMMY!

Here's how I made it. Baked frozen breasts for 50 minutes at 375 (topped with a little sauce). Then added more sauce, bacon bits and put it back in the oven until the cheese melted. Topped with the onion. Served it with homemade mashed red skinned potato salad and my kids and husband loved it!

Recipe is a good idea.I used homemade tomato mushroom sauce instead of BBQ sauce also used half cheddar and half mozzarella cheese. You can also sub cooked sausage rounds for the bacon.

WONDERFUL!!! I work at Chili's, and we actually serve this EXACT dish at the resturaunt, only they call it "Monterey Chicken" Well, I gave this one a shot, the only change I made was to 86 the onions, and use colby-jack instead of cheddar, but it was awesome. Thank you for posting this recipe!! LOVE IT!

Really unexpectedly nice. I wish there was more direction in relation to the times. This is what I determined: Bake chicken firstly for 20-25 minutes and then with cheese for 4-8 minutes. I made it with the bacon and it was nice but it's not really necessary for this dish, it's like eating steak and chicken, do you really need the chicken in that dish? no. Really nice and simple; a great bbq dish without tasting like you're at a cookout.

This is a simple and good dinner. Perfect meal for a weekday when you don't have a lot of time.

Wow - these were really good. Both my husband and I loved them. I made them with fat free cheddar cheese and turkey bacon to try and make it a little healthier. I'm adding this recipe to my collection. Thanks for posting!

We used Sweet Baby Ray's BBQ sauce & turkey bacon. Even my super picky 7 year old daughter loved it! And so easy!

Very good! I did season the chicken breast with seasoning salt before I put the bbq sauce on. Will make again, thanks for the recipe.

Using the same ingredients minus the green onions I cooked this a bit differently and it turned out fantastic! This is my whole families new favorite chicken dish! I used chicken tenderloins rather than chicken breasts and rubbed them all with hickory barbecue sauce in a mixing bowl. Use the same amount of tenderloins as bacon strips. I used 14, which was the same amount as one standard package of bacon. Cut each bacon strip in half and wrap each half over each side of each tenderloin, leaving a gap between the bacon halves. This allows you to cut the chicken in the center with a fork and have a half strip of bacon in every bite. Cook on a pan at 350 for 30 min then take out and turn the over off. Sprinkle chedder cheese over each tenderloin and put back into the oven for 5 min. Don't turn the oven back on for the remaining 5 minutes. I served it with cottage cheese and avacado. So so delicious and perfectly moist!
