Tried this again without the coconut and nutmeg and really liked it alot more than before. I think i will try this again in the future with some coconut milk or flavoring. Sorry this didnt make the finals. It is a great idea!
This recipe makes a lovely smoothie and I did love the ginger and nutmeg in it. I've never added those spices to a drink before and was surprised how well they worked. However, tropical fruits are very expensive here in Switzerland and although I used very ripe fruits I could hardly taste them. The only fruit I could actually taste was the coconut. The mango and papaya only played a minor role. I think I would reduce the ginger and double the mango and papaya if I tried this drink again. Thank you for posting and good luck in the contest!
This is a pleasant drink but the rum is overpowering and the coconut makes it a non-smooth "smoothie." I think it would be better with much less rum, coconut milk instead of coconut (soaking the coconut in the milk and then squeezing/straining it)and a bit of added tartness--a squeeze of lime.
I typically love smoothies and tropical rum drinks, but this combination didn't work for me. The fresh ginger and nutmeg gave it an unpleasant bite, and I didn't care for the tiny coconut flakes in the texture. It was attractive though - nice color.
The fruit in the smoothie was a great combination with the rum. This would be a perfect beach or pool side summer beverage! We tried it chilled and then decided to blend it with a handful of ice cubes and we like this so much more! Next time we will try it with Malibu Rum instead of adding the coconut. Great Smoothie! I used mango rum. I tried it right fron the blender before chilling and was good so I didn`t want to wait to chill it so I blended it with some ice cubes. And it was Fabulous!!!!! Thanks for putting me in the Tropics!!!
I love this drink!! The addition of ginger is just a little unusual for us...and it is great!! I used my vita mix..didn't measure the milk only addition was a couple of ice cubes!! (Myers Rum is the way to go!!) Wonderful recipe!
I did like this and I agree it is better chilled I tried it straight from the blender and found it needed more sugar but once it had chilled and the flavours were a little more blended. It didnt need anything at all.
