A lot of prep for the result. If I make this again, I will: season the chicken with some appropriate spices, change or eliminate the cornstarch mixture (it was too thick to blend in with the rest), and add some mango salsa at the end as I found the sour cream & curry too bland.
This is very good and Caribbean. The sweetness of the butternut squash contrasted nicely with the other ingredients. I had a little difficulty turning the tortillas originally, but soon got the hang of it.
This was fabulous! It looked a lot harder than it was - so many ingredients. I didn't have any butternut squash so used half a sweet potato. Also used 0% Fage instead of sour cream. Made for ZWT9.
It was love at first bite! A terrific dish! Made for ZWT3 as a thanks for our tour guide. (:
This is an EXCELLENT recipe. It was the first time that I made picadillo and I just could believe that I was the one that made such a glorious dish! I didn't use any raisins and I used fresh tomato. That was the only changes I made. Susie that was a more than 5 stars recipe. Thanks!
This was a really delicious recipe and came together very easily - the instructions make the process seem longer than it actually is cause they're so detailed. The picadillo filling is wonderful - spicy/sweet/savoury. The egg wash dip for the tortillas was new to me - I don't know if that's done in other recipes or if it's an 'original Susie' but it was good. The tortilla remained soft and tender but did achieve crispness on the outside. Much enjoyed for a summery, weekend meal.
This picadillo is WONDERFUL! A great combination of spice and sweet, of textures. The aroma and the flavors are terrific. And it works perfectly as the filling for a tortilla. This review is just for the filling, as I used it to fill warm soft tortillas and did not use the egg batter. But Zaar limits prevent me from giving this picadillo all the stars it deserves. Great job, Susie!
These were wonderful! I really thought they captured the Caribbean flavors. I could see this dish being served at an island resort. It did take longer to make then stated, but I also had to make them one at a time. This recipe made 12 6" filled tortillas. Excellent Flavors! A definite winner! Good Luck Chef!
I loved the tortillas with the egg mixture. What a tasty idea. The spicy curry dip was a terrific compliment. I had a little difficulty with the chicken and picadillo mixture. The final taste was good; it was more the process I had trouble with. If I had left the chicken in with the cooking veggies, I think the chicken would have over cooked. I am also thinking that I would have had an easier time if I had cooked the butternut a little bit before I added the other vegetables. Overall I really enjoyed this and think it has a lot of potential.
