This is loaded with wonderful cardamom flavor! Mine did not turn into snaps (to the delight of my hubby, who loves soft cookies) as I baked them only for 8 minutes. I rotated halfway through baking and hot out of the oven there were just soft little morsels! After beating the shortening for 30 seconds, I then added the brown sugar only and creamed those two for about a minute or so, then added the rest. I added the egg first, then the molasses. I also added a pinch of salt, then added the flour in increments. These are definitely going to be made again. Thanks so much for sharing!
- 3⁄4 cup shortening
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 2 teaspoons cardamom
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1⁄4 cup molasses
- 1 egg
- 2 1⁄4 cups flour
- 1⁄4 cup sugar

- In a bowl beat shortening with mixer on med speed for 30 seconds. Add brown sugar, baking soda, cinnamon, and 1 1/2 tsp of cardamom reserving a 1/2 teaspoons Beat until combined.
- Beat in molasses and egg. Beat in flour.
- Shape dough into 1-inch balls. Roll balls in the 1/4 sugar combined with reserved 1/2 tsp cardamom.
- Bake 375* for about 10 mins or until edges are set and tops are slightly cracked. (don't over bake)Cool on wire rack.
