Caramelised Potatoes (Sukkerbrunede Kartofler)

A recipe I found online at for their Christmas recipes. These potatoes sound so different from what I have had and so tasty. Posting this for ZWT 6. I haven't tried them yet, but would taste them and then determine if they needed any salt or pepper.


  1. Peel and dice potatoes then add them to a large sauce pan and cover with cold water. Bring water to a boil on high heat then reduce to a slow boil for 15 minutes. Rinse the potatoes in cold water and drip dry.
  2. Melt the sugar in a frying pan until golden. Add the butter and put the potatoes in the mixture when the butter has stopped fizzing. Brown the potatoes over a brisk fire while stirring.
  3. Caramelised potatoes are not suitable for re-heating, for then they will not become shiny, but dull and furry.

These were like dessert! I used Yukon Gold potatoes and steamed them in the microwave, then sliced them (just personal preference). They coated very nicely. I did not add any salt or pepper because they were quite flavorful as is. Thanks for sharing this. Made for ZWT6 by a RedHot Renegade.

What an unusual (& great) way to do up the ol' potato! I did cut the recipe in half for just the 2 of us, & then followed through with the directions as given! I was expecting to add a little salt or lemon pepper just before serving, but we liked the caramelized potatoes so much exactly as made, that we let go of any other seasoning! Thanks for a great recipe keeper! {Made & reviewed while in Scandinavia with ZWT6]
