Caramel Dumplings

"My friend made this recipe the other day at our "old fashion comfort food fest" themed holiday party. she said her grandma used to make these. Quantity depends on how big you make your dumplings."

  • Sauce:

  • Combine brown sugar and butter in a small saucepan. Cook over medium heat, stirring frequently, until sugar is caramelized.
  • Slowly add the water, stirring constantly. Boil for a few minutes.
  • Pour into a small casserole dish.
  • Batter:

  • Cream the butter and sugar together. Add the milk and then the dry ingredients. Mix to blend.
  • Drop by spoonfuls into the caramel syrup.
  • Bake at 350°F for 20 to 30 minutes. Serve warm.

  1. I made this morning for brunch. I messed up the sauce because I added all the ingredients and did not caramelize the brown sugar. To compensate, I reduced the sauce by about 1/4 by boiling for awhile. It was liquidy , but it firmed up very nicely once cooked. My family liked this and suggested that it tasted like pecan pie without the nuts. So I think next time I might add nuts to this or even apple slices. Thanks for the recipe.
