Sauce
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1 1⁄2 cups water

Batter
- 1⁄2 cup white sugar
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1⁄2 cup milk
- 1 cup flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 pinch salt

Sauce:
- Combine brown sugar and butter in a small saucepan. Cook over medium heat, stirring frequently, until sugar is caramelized.
- Slowly add the water, stirring constantly. Boil for a few minutes.
- Pour into a small casserole dish.

Batter:
- Cream the butter and sugar together. Add the milk and then the dry ingredients. Mix to blend.
- Drop by spoonfuls into the caramel syrup.
- Bake at 350°F for 20 to 30 minutes. Serve warm.

I made this morning for brunch. I messed up the sauce because I added all the ingredients and did not caramelize the brown sugar. To compensate, I reduced the sauce by about 1/4 by boiling for awhile. It was liquidy , but it firmed up very nicely once cooked. My family liked this and suggested that it tasted like pecan pie without the nuts. So I think next time I might add nuts to this or even apple slices. Thanks for the recipe.
