  • Combine first 4 ingredients in small bowl.
  • Add caramels and toss to coat.
  • In large bowl stir apples and orange juice.
  • Add caramel mixture.
  • Mix well.
  • Pour into a greased 13x9 pan.
  • TOPPING---------.
  • Mix sugar and flour in small bowl.
  • Cut in butter until crumbly.
  • Add oats and walnuts.
  • Sprinkle over apples.
  • Bake at 350* for 45 minutes, or until apples are done.

  1. This is divine. I did everything according the recipe and baked it before the family arrived for dinner. The whole house smelled wonderful. I used a mixture of granny smith and macintosh apples as that's what I had on hand. The only complaint I heard was "she got more caramel that I did - not fair". When I served this, it was still lukewarm, so I didn't bother to re-heat. Next time I would though because the caramel was starting to solidify by time I served it. I am sure it would be much better right out of the oven. Thanks for another great recipe Inez.
     
  2. This was absolutely WONDERFUL!!! I think that next time I make it (and that will be soon) I will use only about 2/3 bag of caramels. The caramel was just a little bit too heavy for our tastes. Otherwise this was great! Thanks
     
  3. This is great! I used 7 Braeburn apples, a bag of Jersey caramels (they have a white strip in center) and only about a 1/2 cup walnuts (last of packet) The melted caramel through the crisp is divine. Served with French vanilla ice cream and some lite cream. Thanks for posting Inez.
     
  4. This was absolutely AWESOME!!. Made this for Thanksgiving and everyone raved about it. Many request to make it again for Christmas and know doubt I certainly will. I followed the recipe to the "T" and served it straight out of the oven. Will be making this again, many more times. Way to go MissNezz.
     
  5. Very yummy! I used a whole bag of caramels 14oz, granny smith and mackintosh apples about 75/25% and left out walnuts because we don't like them. I made ahead of time in the afternoon and then popped in the cooling oven after I pulled dinner out to let it warm and re-heat some. Served it with vanilla ice cream - very sweet and gooey. My only dislike of the recipe was the fact that my topping never browned or got "crisp" It just looked floury. Granted this did nothing to damper the yummy taste so I still give it a 5 star - it could be something I did wrong. Great warm fall/winter dessert!

After DH and I moved away from the farm, and to the city...I haven't done as much cooking and very little canning. But I do come to Zaar and look for new recipes once in a while. I'm still cooking Zaar!! I like to play at Facebook, with my family and friends. A lot of my Zaar friends are there!! Yay! It's a good way to keep in touch. We travel more. We're looking at the European trips now. Hope to go in the springtime. I really want to see London, I think I lived there in a past life, I've been obsessed with it since I was 10 years old!!
