  1. This recipe was very good! It was quite red, but that didn't matter because it tasted so good. I used the oatmeal crumb topping (#109287). I also covered it with foil. Thanks for the recipe! It's certainly a unique way to make apple pie!

  2. This smells wonderful cooking and was very easy to prepare. I took longer than the indicated preparation time period, so maybe I'm slower at peeling and cutting up the apples than expected; it also took longer to cook the cinnamon candies. I used a little more candies--about 1 cup and I added some additional drops of red food coloring. There was enough to make a couple of individual tarts besides a 9" deep dish pie. I used 3 granny smith and 3 macintosh apples--maybe they amounted to more than the recipe expected? This pie is pretty and unusual. I served it warm from the oven with vanilla ice cream for Sunday dinner last night. I wanted to practice and try it out before Thanksgiving Dinner. Kids might like this alot. My husband was a little turned off by the red color and I think he would have just liked it to be a regular apple pie--but where is the sense of adventure? It might have tasted better if it had some butter and vanilla in the recipe.

  3. I was a little worried abou this when I checked the oven halfway through, it was really brown. I covered it with foil and it seemed to do okay. I used 6 apples, but they were a little on the small side, I would probably use larger apples next time. I really liked the taste of this, very sweet, but not an overpowering sweetness. The red color is great, I bet kids would like it. Thank you!!!

I love to cook {and it shows} but wouldn't you know I have raised a family of picky eaters. I am a grandmother of 6 and we like to try a lot of different foods from different countrys.
