I have never enjoyed Candied Yams and it was assigned to me to make this Thanksgiving so of course I went straight to RecipeZaar! This recipe was fantastic, I thought the spices were so delicious in it and I doubled the whole recipe to make lots for leftovers. It turned out great and everyone loved it so much that they made me the official Candied Yam maker for Thanksgiving. :) Thanks for the help Tonkats!
I made this for Thanksgiving and my fiance loved it. He said it tastes like pie. This is the recipie I will be making from now on for the holidays!
I make this every year for Thanksgiving and Christmas. I always get lots of compliments. I will warn you that it might rot your teeth - it is super sweet - but oh so good!
The proportion of spice was way overpowering, even with cutting down. If I make this again, I will use probably two large cans of yams, I think.
This is pretty much what I had growing up, it doesn't take much to sweeten this, it's even amazing with just butter and cinnamon :) Such a fabulous dish I love it!
very good. I loved it. I would suggest using less ginger as it overpowered the rest of the spices.
This was excellent! I didn't have all of the spices individually so I just used pumpkin pie spice. Both my fiance and I loved it and I'm not even a big yam fan!
my bf thought they were good, but needed less spices, as they were a bit overwhelming. also, next time i will not mash these, but cut them into chunks, to make a more attractive dish.
We made this for Thanksgiving and we could not get enough of it. Turkey was left over, but not this!
try cooking down the juice (or light syrup) that the yams are canned in - you can add your butter and spices to the juice as it cooks down - you want it reduced to 1/4 (approx) then pour it over the yam casserole and add more marshmallows on top and pop in oven - it's wonderful!
