I learned about this tea from my tribe's medicine man it's quiet calming. ( Use only the freshest cedar greens available -- do not at anytime use dried cedar). PRECAUTIONS: CEDAR MAY CAUSE ALLERGIC REACTIONS IN SOME PEOPLE... IF YOU DEVELOP A RASH, IRRITATION OR SWELLING OF THE THROAT SEEK MEDICAL ATTENTION IMMEDIATELY! PLEASE NEVER USE THE BARK!
- In a small pot bring 4 cups of water to a boil.
- Add 2 cups fresh cedar to boiling water.
- Boil for 10 minutes or until water becomes golden in color.
- Strain tea into a small tea pot or bowl.
- After straining make to dispose of the cedar.
It's great to pass on these kinds of traditional medicines, but that's just what they are, medicines. What you should be posting is what you were taught it is used for. Different areas use medicines differently, such as in my are we are Ojibway/Chippewa and Cedar Tea is meant for illness, generally throat, stomach and head. And, you're to explain why you are taking from the cedar tree, what it is being used for and who it is being used for, simply out of respect for the tree. There are also specific times of the day you collect the cedar, again out of respect for the tree and also because of certain chemical reactions going on within the cedar. Early morning,the tree is not producing as many nutrients to itself like it would be during mid day, therefore, you would not be benefiting as much from the tea's properties as you would if you were to collect it at a later point in the day while it's nutrients are circulating throughout itself.
I had the pleasure of having Gabriel make this for me. The golden tea was thick, syrupy, sweet and very calming, with a lovely fragrance and flavor.
