Thank you for sharing this soup. I made this as a part of our dinner tonight. My mom has been down with a running nose for very long now. She said she really liked this soup. She did not want me to use veg. broth(as a substitute for chicken broth), so, I used water instead. I used in total 8 cups of water for this recipe. I love celery and cabbage immensely, and, this soup had both of 'em! I did not have ginger in powdered form, so, I used 2 tsps. of chopped ginger. I also used 2 tsps. of chopped garlic. Thank you, once again, for sharing this simple and good recipe.
Cinnamon is one of my favorite ingredients, so I'm thrilled to have another non-dessert item to add it to. I added a generous amount of red pepper flakes instead of ground red pepper, omitted the ginger and cloves, and used beef stock instead. Love that I now have a very spicy, flavorful recipe for cabbage soup!
Definitely not the usual, boring cabbage soup. This blend of spices really perks up this everyday vegetables. Since no amounts were listed for the spices, I chose to use about 1/2 tsp of each. I did add garlic as well. I loved the idea listed in the last recipe step, so I added 1 star anise to the soup while it simmered. I may add some chopped tomatoes next time because I think they'd be perfect in this mixture. Thanx for sharing!
Easy enough to make and the result was delicious. Did not have a potato so I subbed a can of diced tomatoes. (My Mom used to make Cabbage Soup and she always had spare ribs in it.)
I found this easy to do and the addition of chili and cinnamon unique. I would not forget to add the anise (seed) either. However, I still found it to be quite bland. I added some miso and that helped flavour it up a bit.
