When I make this I use my crock pot. I put the raw cabbage in the bottom of the crock, then sprinkle the uncooked rice right over top. Then I put the ground beef mixture over that. I use condensed tomato soup instead of tomato sauce, with 1 can full of water. Also I use one more can of soup over the top of the meat in the crock pot. Cook all day and come home to a great meal!!
This turned out ok. It was pretty watery. The tomato sauce measurement made me think it was originally meant to be condensed tomato soup - those are around 14 oz., while tomato sauce is 15 oz. (and I think it used to be 16 oz.). I accidentally added a can of water (ie. 15 oz.) after reading a nearly identical recipe and getting confused. I am pretty sure 8 oz. would have been ok. It was a little bland.
I also used the crock pot--was done on Lo in 4 hrs--added a bit more It seasoning and used a jar of spaghetti sauce which gave a bit more flavor. A tasty, filling, healthy meal--a bit of grated cheese on top when served was also a nice touch.
This was a very good recipe. Ignoring the 'Dairy Free' part I added cheese w/ each layer and also had some mushrooms that needed to be used. It was delicious and very easy. Thanks for posting!
This was a winner for us. We added 2 cans of tomatoes and a little more rice and turkey rather than beef. We actually made two smaller casseroles and put one in the freezer - only to defrost it within the week as we were craving it again! Thanks Chelle.
Tasty but not as filling as I had hoped. I would add more rice next time. Very easy to do.
This was super easy and very tasty! For an extra kick, I added a bit of Tabasco sauce in with the ground beef mix. My fussy Ukrainian DH even liked it! Thanks for sharing!
This was super easy and really good...next time though i think i'll use two cans of tomato sauce as it was a little on the dry side. Thanks for sharing!
Great recipe.Used the splenda and white vinegar and it was awesome .Going to make it again soon.
