I think I was expecting the cake to be a richer chocolate flavor. Don't get me wrong, it was good, just not the decadent rich chocolate I was hoping for. I made the frosting as directed and the flavor was excellent, but it was on the thin side so I added more powdered sugar. I kept adding a little at a time trying to get a better consistency. In the end I had added so much powdered sugar that it was very sweet and you didn't taste the orange very much. Once again, it was still good, just not great. Over all, it's a good cake, but it just doesn't have that wow factor I was hoping for.
The frosting wasn't bad, but our family did not like the taste to much. We did not try the cake though.
I made this yesterday for my son's birthday. To be totally honest, I liked the icing more than the cake. I followed the recipe exactly but was hoping for more of a rich chocolate cake. It was a good cake....just not a great cake...to my liking. On the other hand, the icing was out of this world ! I was licking the bowl and my fingers......and had trouble sharing with the rest of the family ! Thanks for a great icing recipe....I'll make this one again for sure !
I made this recipe for dinner last night; the rest of the cake is sitting in the fridge! It is WONDERFUL! I needed to put more powdered suger in the frosting so that it was the right consistancy. Anyway - a GREAT CAKE!!
I made this recipe for Halloween. I'm a real fan of orange and chocolate flavors combined and boy was this cake a delicious combination. The rich chocolate cake was so moist and the fresh orange flavor of the frosting was just perfect. This one is a keeper! Thanks for sharing.
