This recipe for buttermilk cake calls for orange extract but that can be replaced be any extract you might like.

This is now my husband's favourite cake. It needed nothing extra; it was incredible on its own. I did grease my bundt pan before pouring in the batter and still had trouble unmoulding, so next time I think I'll try greasing and flouring.

  1. Preheat oven to 350.
  2. In a bowl sift together flour, baking soda and salt. Set aside.
  3. In a seperate bowl cream together shortening and sugar. Add eggs one at a time. When eggs are combined add buttermilk, vanilla and orange extract.
  4. Slowly combine flour mixture and buttermilk mixture until combined. Pour into a bundt pan and bake for 60 minutes or until done all the way through.
