  1. Pre-heat oven to 450 degrees.
  2. Sift dry ingredients together in a large mixing bowl.
  3. Cut butter and shortening into small pieces and cut into dry mixture until it resembles course meal.
  4. Add buttermilk and mix until just combined.
  5. Turn dough out onto a floured board. Gently pat the dough until it is about 1/2" thick. Fold dough 5 times. Gently press or roll dough down to 1" thick.
  6. Using a round cutter, cut into rounds and place on a sheet pan 1" apart.
  7. Bake for 18 minutes until golden brown on top and bottom.
