  • Pre-heat oven to 450 degrees.
  • Sift dry ingredients together in a large mixing bowl.
  • Cut butter and shortening into small pieces and cut into dry mixture until it resembles course meal.
  • Add buttermilk and mix until just combined.
  • Turn dough out onto a floured board. Gently pat the dough until it is about 1/2" thick. Fold dough 5 times. Gently press or roll dough down to 1" thick.
  • Using a round cutter, cut into rounds and place on a sheet pan 1" apart.
  • Bake for 18 minutes until golden brown on top and bottom.
