Buttercream Frosting

"I got this recipe from Eileen Goudge's wonderful book entitled "Something Warm from the Oven". Makes enough to frost two 8-or 9-inch layers."

  • Cream the softened butter in a large bowl with an electric mixer.
  • Gradually add sifted confectioners'sugar, beating well.

  1. I liked the light texture of this frosting, and the flavor was perfect with just the right amount of sweetness. Followed the ingredient list exactly, using about 3.5 T. of half-n-half to frost 24 cupcakes. Delicious!

  2. Amazing! We made just as directed (used 3T of half and half), and then added just a little over 1T of Cocoa pwdr with a bit more half and half to make it a light chocolate frosting. It was delicious, and we will definitely use this recipe again!

  3. Amazing frosting! Seriously had to stop myself from eating it by the spoonful. I used whole milk instead of half and half and didn't have time to sift the powdered sugar, but it turned out great. This is definitely going to be my go to buttercream recipe.

  4. I chose this recipe because there were only 4 ingredients and at 1:00 in the morning I wanted something quick and easy. This fit the bill perfectly. I do not recommend making a double recipe. I used my kitchen aid and although it all fit in at the same time, It was much easier when I made a single recipe. I used 3x this recipe to cover a 9 in layer cake and a 6 inch layer cake. I added at least one more tablespoon of half and half than listed in the ingredients and that helped with the spreadability. I also used almond extract in place of the vanilla. A great go to recipe.

  5. I made this when I ran out of frosting while icing my son's birthday cake.. I needed more for the decorating. It had a great consistency and taste!
