Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 F degrees.
  2. Cream together brown sugar, sugar,and butter with mixer.
  3. Add vegetable oil, egg, milk, and vanilla and mix well.
  4. Mix together flour, soda, baking powder, salt, and cream of tartar.
  5. Stir flour mixture into creamed mixture.
  6. Gently fold in M&M's.
  7. Drop by heaping teaspoon onto ungreased cookie sheet.
  8. Bake 10- 12 minutes.
  9. Cool on cookie sheets for a few minutes before moving to cooling rack.

These shortbread cookies are awesome! I didn't have enough butter so I used 1/2 c butter and 1/2 c margarine, I think they turned out fine. I'm not a huge chocolate person, I think next time I will use dried cherries in place of the M&M's, and maybe almond extract instead of vanilla. This recipe is a definite keeper, thanks for posting it!

I got this recipe from the newspaper a few years ago and have made it many times since. It is a fabulous shortbread cookie everyone raves about. I've tried it in a jellyroll pan, but they turn out a bit too rich because you have to cut them large or they crumble. As drop cookies though they are wonderful!
