My grandfather from England makes Bubble & Squeek the exact same way, it is so simple but has a wonderful unexpected flavour.

Super breakfast bulk served with soy sausages. Tasty and healthy too! I used pre-packaged slaw mix with carrots in it. Excellent! Try it.

....plain simple and GOOD!! I dislike people that muck up a good recipe...this is the way I have always done it too.

Used my leftover St. Patrick's day Corned Beef and Cabbage to make this for breakfast, topped with poached eggs as instructed. Yum!!!! My potatoes weren't mashed. Next time I will mash some of the potatoes so it sticks together better.
