  1. in a large mixing bowl, cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  2. add corn syrup and egg.
  3. beat well.
  4. stir in chocolate and vanilla.
  5. combine the flour, baking powder and salt.
  6. add to chocolate mixture.
  7. beat well.
  8. stir in nuts.
  9. drop by tablespoonfuls, 2 inches apart onto greased baking sheets.
  10. bake at 350 degrees, for 10-12 minutes or until edges are firm.
  11. remove to wire racks to cool completely.

These are great. The corn syrup gives them a nice, slightly chewy and soft consistency. My mom started making these probably in the 70s after the recipe appeared in a Karo ad.
