OMG this recipe is exactly what I have been looking for. I also added chopped green chiles to the casserole also. Definitely a keeper! Thanks!
The is a very filling crowd pleaser! The top is crisp and the inside is light and airy. I didn`t fride overnight just let sit for one hour and baked. We had it for dinner. This can be eaten at any meal. I used 3 cups cooked, sliced hot sausage. A bunch is a bunch is a bunch! So I used 1/2 cups sliced green onions. The shredded cheese was 3 cups. Good stuff!
I was about to make this when I noticed it's mentioned in the recipe but, surely, you're supposed to cook the sausage before adding it to the casserole, aren't you?
This is fantastic! I made it for Christmas breakfast and about four times since. Everyone loves it, and it is SO easy. The last time I made it, I made it even easier on myself and used unseasoned croutons so I didn't even have to cut the bread. (They get plenty moist and soft) Also, this time I let it set for just 15 minutes before baking and it came out the same. But I have to say, knowing I can leave it overnight is a huge help when stressed for time. Thanks for the recipe!
I'm glad you posted this Nimz! I was searching through breakfast casserole recipes to see if anyone had already posted this one. I have been making this recipe for several years and it's wonderful. I'm not sure when this originated but I found the recipe posted in a local church cookbook. I always make this Christmas Eve and pop it in the oven Christmas morning, the house smells heavenly while this is baking! The only substitution I make is using gluten free bread cubes. If you haven't tried this recipe it is definately a crowd pleaser!
This is so good. It's one of my favorite breakfast casseroles now. I made it exactly as stated and it came out perfect. Thanks for sharing!
This recipe is very good. My family just loves breakfast casseroles. I followed the recipe exactly except I only put green onions on 1/2 of it. My DD hates onions. Made for 1,2,3 Hit Wonders 07.
This recipe is wonderful. I must confess that I left out the green onions because DH doesn't care for them, but it was delicious without them. I used a day old loaf of white bread with the crusts removed so I cut the light cream (half and half) down to 2 1/2 cups vs 3. If you are thinking that the liquid amount may be a bit high, it really is right on. I also used an extra 4 ounces of cheddar cheese in addition to the cheese called for. The swiss cheese was a nice added flavor. I am thankful for Rita's review stating she only waited 1 hour to bake vs overnight because I found myself in a similar situation. I prepped it and refrigerated for about 3 hours and baked exactly 1 hour. It came out perfect. Moist but done. This recipe is divine Nimz, DH went back for thirds! Thanks for sharing. Nick's Mom
