Where did this come from? I haven't got a clue. I see it going, going, gone. Great to bake before bed and have ready when everyone is rushing out the door. Just take one (or two) with you.
- Combine all ingredients and press into greased 9x9 pan.
- Bake 20-25 minutes at 350 degrees.
- Cut when cool.
These are great! The basic recipe lends itself to all sorts of variations. I have tried the other posters' suggestions and also have stirred in 1/2 c applesauce, (I did have to then add a couple of tablespoons of flour to thicken the mixture back up) a dash of cinnamon and a large handful of raisins. Next I will try some mashed banana and maybe some walnuts. Thank you for an easy alternative to store bought cereal bars.
This was delicious and easy but did fall appart. My eight year old ate it in a bowl with a spoon but said it was yummy. Will make again and eat it warm with a glass of milk since it is so delicious.
Delicious! I made this recipe with the following substitutions Â¼ cup applesauce and Â¼ cup softened (not melted) butter for the butter and Â¼ c eggbeaters for the egg. I also added in allspice, walnuts, milled flax seed, and wheat germ. (I always try to add fiber and nutrients when possible.) After cooling, I did not have the crumbling issue that others noted. I think the â€œsoftenedâ€� butter and applesauce helped bind the dry ingredients better. I WILL make these again, however, next time I will also decrease the brown sugar which I forgot to do (since applesauce is a natural sweetener.)
