Breakfast Casserole by Loretta

I have never made this particular casserole, but I have eaten it many times. Loretta brings this wonderful casserole to our prayer breakfasts at church, and if she doesn't her mother Cleda does. I finally got the recipe for this myself, so I will definitely be making it as I know it is wonderful. It is very creamy. The meat they use is usually ham and sometimes sprinkled bacon on top also. Hope you enjoy it as much as I have. I will have to cut it down for me and my hubby, but am sure it can be.

Ingredients Nutrition

  • 12 slices of buttered bread
  • 12 ounces shredded cheese (your choice)
  • 12-1 lb cooked sausage (or other meat) or 12-1 lb ham (or other meat)
  • 6 eggs
  • 3 cups milk
  • salt and pepper

Directions

  1. 1st layer - buttered bread.
  2. 2nd layer - meat.
  3. 3rd layer - cheese.
  4. Then blend eggs, milk, salt and pepper; pour over layers.
  5. Bake at 350° for 45 minutes.

This easy casserole is sure to please everyone. I used sausage and it turned out great. It's one of those dishes that you can add chopped onion or green pepper too for variety. As usual, your dishes never fail to please us. Thanks so much for ANOTHER wonderful meal, Darlene Summers.

This is a quick and tasty breakfast. I cut the recipe in half and used and 8x8 dish. I tore the bread into pieces and let the dish sit for about 10 minutes to let the eggs soak the bread before baking. The dish is all lovely browned on top and it tastes great. Served with a side of salsa....mmmmm!! Thanks Darlene for sharing this keeper.
