The toated wheat germ gives the bread a whole grain flavor. This recipe comes from the Better Homes and Gardens Bread Machine Book and makes a 1-1/2 pound loaf.
- Select the 1 1/2 pound loaf size.
- Add the ingredients to the machine according to manufacturer's directions.
- Select the basic white bread cycle.
Excellent bread! Made with two changes - I subbed 1 cup of spelt flour because I absolutely love it, and used olive oil instead of butter. This makes a fantastic, soft and delicious loaf - the buttermilk and wheat germ are real winners here! This is going in my Best of 2011 book! Thanks BakinBaby! Made for 1-2-3 Hits.
A fine bread. I needed a bit more flour, it seemed, and I did use some whole wheat flour to add to the wheatiness of it all. Made very nice rolls for our sandwiches.
DH says "best bread you've ever made" We loved this, I did use 1 cup of wheat flour with 2 cups of white. Very easy, just set and go. Makes great toast too. Will make this again.
