directions

  • Prepare cake mix as directed on box, using a 13x9 pan.
  • Remove cake from oven and using the handle of a wooden spoon, immediately poke holes in the cake about 1 inch apart, making sure to go all the way down to cake bottom.
  • Combine pudding mix and sugar in a large bowl.
  • Gradually stir in the milk and beat on low speed for about 1 minute with an electric mixer (do not over beat).
  • Quickly, before pudding thickens, pour about half of the thin pudding mix evenly over the warm cake and into the holes.
  • Allow the remaining pudding to thicken slightly, and then use it to frost the cake.
  • Chill for at least 1 hour before serving, and keep stored in the refrigerator.

  1. We used to have this when I was a kid. We like to use vanilla cake and pudding and top with fresh sliced strawberries OR yellow cake with chocolate pudding and top with sliced bananas!

  2. This is a great idea for a cake! I made this for my Super Bowl party dessert and it was a hit. I used what I happen to have on hand and that was white cake mix with butterscotch pudding in the holes and chocolate pudding for the "icing" Yummy and so much potential variety!!!! Thanks.

  3. Great addition to my cookbooks! Okay, here is the version I ended up with: Dark chocolate cake mix with coconut cream instant pudding mix. The top looked a little blah, so I sprinkled it with chopped pecans which really worked out well. The only problem I had which was very minor, was that my pudding mixes were 3.9 oz packages which looked standard on my shelf when I looked at the other pudding mix boxes. I used the whole 4 cups of milk and even after it thickened it wasn't as thick as it should have been for pudding, but who cares! Everyone really enoyed it and I'll be making this one again (PS: it's also quick!)

  5. This was a very delicious cake and super simple to make. It was very moist too. My daughter and I made it for her pre-k class. She choose yellow cake and vanilla icing. Her teacher said the class loved it and she even asked me for the recipe. I have also had it with chocolate icing and chocolate cake. What I love most is the different combinations you can create are unlimitied. Great recipe Cinnamon1025.
