Bourbon Sweet Potatoes

"This is a great make ahead recipe for those big family get-to-gathers. I often mix them the day before, adding the marshmallows and baking the day of the feast. I believe they are much better if they are refrigerated overnight or as leftovers the next day."

  1. We did this recipe for Thanksgiving it was great. My husband the chef2b and I aren't sweet potatoe lovers but liked these. Only thing we changed was to add 1/2c orange juice and we used brown sugar instead of regular. The "smell" of Bourbon, we used Woodford Reserve was over whelming but well liked by family members. They joked who neeeds a drink with these around. We will be making these again for Christmas.

  2. My husband who doesn't like sweet potatoes liked these! I used fresh sweet potatoes I grew myself, brown sugar instead of white, and left out the marshmallows because it didn't really need the extra sweetness. Best sweet potatoes ever!

  3. I forget to rate these. I made these for Thanksgiving and they were awesome. I used 5 large sweet potatoes. I boiled them first. I did not mash them but sliced them about 1/2 inch or a little thicker. I then followed the recipe. I also added a more bourbon probable 1/2 cup. They were delicious. Thanks Roger/OH for sharing such a wonderful recipe.

  4. This was a delicious recipe, thank you for sharing. I peeled some sweet potatoes then sliced them and poured the sweet mixture over them. All I had was some Southern Comfort but I will tell you it came out delicious. There were no leftovers!

  5. I was going to post this exact recipe, but found it already posted. I got the recipe at an office Thanksgiving pot luck several years ago, and it has become a turkey-day family tradition ever since. I highly recommend this dish. Be sure to use quality Kentucky bourbon.

  1. These were awesome and so easy to make. The only thing I changed was I used brown sugar instead of regular and needed to cook them for about 40 minutes to get the marshmallows to brown nicely. Other than that made as directed. These turned out just great. Thanks Roger/OH for a keeper recipe.

For extra cash, we have a small herd of Texas Longhorns here in Ohio. We raise them for both show and beef. I go into withdrawal when we run out of our lean meat and have to buy the store bought meat. I have been involved in buckskinning (camping where tents, dress and everything conforms to pre 1840)for 15 years. We bought a motorhome last year so most of my camping has been modern style lately. My wife likes the conviences. I love nothing more than to sit around the camp fire all day and cook. If you run into me at a camp grounds, both modern and oldtime, bring your plate and hunger. There is always something on the fire. My rating system updated 8/06: When I first came to the Zaar, every recipe was great. I have become more critical 5 Stars - Fantastic recipe. I would pay for this dish in a restaurant and tell all my friends to try it. 4 Stars - Truely a great recipe that I would proudly serve to guests as is. May tweak a slightly. 3 Stars - So so. Didn't move us either way. Maybe a good basic recipe to build on or it may be be an item that doesn't normally grace our table. That will be stated. I may make again with changes. 2 Stars - Sorry nobody liked it. 1 Star - Don't know what went wrong, but something did. Nobody ate it. No clue what to do. <img < img src= "http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y53/DUCHESS13/FFF/completedbanner.gif"><img src="http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e347/Saturn6666/FFFFlag.jpg"> <img src="http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b399/susied214/projects/chef3.jpg" alt="Image hosted by Photobucket.com"> <img src="http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b399/susied214/beartag_1_1.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting"> <img src="http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b399/susied214/adopted_1_1.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting"> <img src="http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b399/susied214/permanent%20collection/untitled.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting"> <img src="http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b399/susied214/permanent%20collection/200_artistrichardneuman-art-prints_.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting"> <img src="http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y53/DUCHESS13/FFF/Switzerland-FFF4.gif"> <a href="http://photobucket.com" target="_blank"><img src="http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a209/tlonghorn/banners/BBQ2.jpg" border="0" alt="Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket"></a> <img src="http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b399/susied214/permanent%20collection/BtoBHosts.jpg" border="0" alt="Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket"> <img src="http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b399/susied214/CV.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"> <img src="http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd235/MidwestMaven/SpoiledPetbanner.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"><img src="http://i174.photobucket.com/albums/w115/bugh8er/food%20and%20swaps/400035_d7f1b969-m3_1217872626.png" border="0" alt="Photobucket">
