My mother used to grind the bologna with her old-fashioned crank grinder. She would make large batches as we all loved this. Thinking back, I am sure it also helped stretch her food budget. It really is good and simple to make.

I am giving this five stars in advance because I know how it will taste! One of my jobs as a little girl was to help my mother grind the bologna in our old-fashioned meat grinder to make what she called "ham salad." (Another one of my jobs was to puncture the packet of yellow dye and squish it all around in the plastic bag of margarine to color it. In those days, margarine was sold white, and the packet of color had to be mixed in by the end user. It was illegal to sell it already colored yellow.) Back to the recipe at hand: We used Miracle Whip, and sweet pickles. I can hardly wait to buy some bologna and Miracle Whip and make a batch of this.I like one reviewer's idea of adding some onion. This is a cherished food memory for me, thank you!
- 1 lb unsliced bologna or 1 (1 lb) packageof sliced bologna
- 6 large dill pickles (i use kosher)
- 1⁄2 cup mayonnaise, to taste
