directions

  • Bring to a roiling boil a large kettle of salted water.
  • Place lobsters in boiling water head first. Cover and cook for 15 minutes.
  • Remove and serve with melted butter.
  • HOW TO EAT: Twist off the claws. Crack each claw with a nut cracker.
  • Separate the tail piece from the body. Bend back and break the flippers off the tail piece. Insert a fork where the flippers have been broken off and push out the meat.
  • Separate the back from the body. Open the remaining part of the body by cracking apart sideways. There is some good meat in this section.
  • The small claws are excellent eating! The meat sucked out like like sipping through a straw!

  1. Thank you so much for posting this recipe, it's simple and makes perfectly cooked lobsters. The natural taste of fresh lobster is divine all by itself and doesn't need Martha Stewart meddling with it! I normally buy lobsters freshly cooked, but they had a big sale on the live ones and weren't expecting any to remain to be cooked by the store. I can remember my parents steaming lobsters in a pot with water and seaweed but I couldn't see myself running to the shore to get some this time of year! Plus I wasn't quite sure how long to cook them for, other than that they had to turn red before they're done. It was great to be able to come here and find a nice simple way to make them. Just delicious.

  2. My husband and I have never tried to boil our own lobsters. Thank you for posting a recipe that is simple and something two novices could do without any trouble at all. Your how to eat instructions were helpful as well. The lobster meat was succulent and a true guilty pleasure. Thanks Barbara Mooers.

  3. This recipe is all mapped out...no mistakes. We cooked them outside on a big turkey cooker. Easy. I will look for this again.

  4. Recommend throwing the lobster in ice cold water immediately upon taking out of boiling water/steam process as all the heat trapped in the shell keeps cooking the lobster. This will result in overcooked meat and possibly rubbery in texture.

  5. THE one and only way to cook lobster!! Excellent.

Zaar...Wow, what a place! I'm one of the old timers of Zaar. I can't count the number of wonderful dishes I cooked in the past few years since joining. Along the way I have had the pleasure of meeting several Zaar chefs. Talk about your fruits and nuts! lol. I have enjoyed meeting them all. Family: What's to say...I have had the same sweet husband forever (Good thing....I'd hate to have to break a new one in...=) and live close to a couple of grown children. (Maybe you've met Smoke Alarm Jr. ..her brown rolls are sooo good!) Therefore, my family gets together often to enjoy each other's company and cooking. My greatest joy is six "little to tallerthanme" kids running around calling me Grammy. They wear me out! lol For the past thirty years I have been a Special Education teacher for grades 9-12 and love it. Took some time off last year to recovery from surgery, chemotherapy and radiation for breast cancer. (Loved the radiation....I keep imagining that we are absolutely napalming the nasty cancer cells tohellandback to keep the little suckers from returning. =) My prognosis is good and now "I'm back in the saddle again". lol. Being a north country "gurl", I am happiest outside...walking, fishing, sitting in front of an outdoor fire or being on water (although in February it's a bit stiff....=0) When indoors I like to read, garden, knit, quilt and paint. During cold Maine weather I like to warm my feet on a very large ( 100 pounds of long legs and huge feet), sweet and furry golden retriever named Kerry (aka KTBRD: Kerry the big red dawg..lol) . In the summer, the dawg and I round up the grandkids, hit the local dairy bar for a Mounds Sundae that is to die for!!!=0) . Then spend a lot of long and lazy summer days at camp . All in all...Boy, Life is good! =)
